Kunal Kain

Managing Partner

Kunal Kain is the Founder and Managing Partner of Kain Capital. Prior to Kain Capital, Kunal managed money for a number of high net worth individuals and family offices. Kunal began his career working for Kellogg Capital on their equity trading desk, and then followed it with a number of stints at bulge bracket banks including Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers, Barclays Capital and Citibank. Kunal holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and is a graduate of Dartmouth College.


Nurbek Turdukulov

Partner, Origination

Nurbek Turdukulov has more than twenty years of experience in private financing as well as significant operational experience as a corporate executive. He has started, developed and merged several successful projects in telecommunications and health care industries. These ventures include a leading mobile phone operator, a FTTP broadband internet provider and an international network of medical diagnostic laboratories. He has extensive experience in investing in small and medium-size companies. Nurbek earned his MS in Economics from Kyrgyz-Slavic University and his BS in Economic Cybernetics from the State University of Management (Moscow, Russia).


Pen King, Sr.

Senior Advisor

Pendelton King Sr. is Chairman of the Investment Committee and a Senior Advisor at Kain Capital. He is president and CEO of his own firm, King Capital, where he has managed capital and invested in the fixed-income and equity market since 1992. Prior to King, he was at Solomon Brothers for 15 years, becoming partner for the last seven, where he sold and created taxable bonds. He graduated from Princeton University in 1976.


Tony Brindisi

VP, Portfolio Operations

Tony Brindisi is a Vice President at Kain Capital. Prior to joining Kain, he led a series of successful engagements to dramatically transform a wide a variety of companies as a Project Leader at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Prior to BCG, Tony spent several years as the Director of Sales and Marketing for The Keller Group, an insurance and financial services firm. Tony earned his MBA at Columbia Business School, and holds a BS in business administration from The Ohio State University.


Christopher Lee

VP, M&A and Portfolio Finance

Christopher Lee is a Vice President at Kain Capital. Prior to joining Kain, he worked on the investment team at Coller Capital, focusing on direct and co-investments. Christopher began his career as an M&A and Capital Markets attorney at O’Melveny & Myers before joining Evercore as an investment banker, where he advised clients across a broad range of industries on M&A, debt restructurings, capital raises and other strategic decisions. Christopher holds a JD from Harvard Law School, an MBA from Columbia Business School and is a graduate of Harvard College.


Ryan Thorpe

VP, Portfolio Operations

Ryan Thorpe is a Vice President at Kain Capital. Prior to joining Kain, he worked as an Engagement Manager at McKinsey and Company, leading clients across a range of industries on topics including strategy, commercial improvement, and acquisitions. Areas of experience include analytics, go-to-market commercial, corporate finance, and transactions and integration. Prior to McKinsey and Company, Ryan was a manager at First Manhattan Consulting Group, where he led an fast growing expansion into a new geographical market. Ryan holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and is a graduate of Harvard College.


Ashley Chang

Senior Associate

Ashley Chang is a Senior Associate at Kain Capital. Prior to joining Kain, she was a part of the direct investment team at Quilvest Private Equity, working on the execution and due diligence of leveraged buyouts and growth equity opportunities. Ashley began her career as an Investment Banking Analyst at Evercore, where she focused on advisory services in mergers and acquisitions as well as debt and equity financings. Ashley holds a BS in Finance and Accounting from New York University Stern School of Business

Pendleton “Pen” King Jr. is Managing Partner of PKJ Ventures, a leading early-stage venture capital firm based in New York City. Pen started his career as a research analyst at the Seaport Group, and then worked in his family’s investment office, King Capital, which has a 20+ year successful track record of operating in a wide-range of equity, fixed-income and alternative approaches. Pen holds a B.A. in Sociology from Syracuse University.
